A woman was killed and another seriously wounded in two separate gun attacks in Narathiwat province on Saturday night, police said.

The first attack occurred at 6.20pm in Si Sakhon district when the pillion rider of a motorcycle opened fire with an AK47 rifle at the kitchen of a defence volunteer's base at village No 1 in tambon Sako, aiming to kill some volunteers standing nearby.

The gun shots missed the volunteers but hit Anchalee Laochan, 23, the wife of a defence volunteer, two times in the neck and body, killing her instantly. She was among other women cooking in the kitchen.
