PAD issues 7-point demand for govt to reject ICJ ruling

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has submitted a seven-point proposal to the government, demanding it reject any unfavourable ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Thai-Cambodian border dispute.

The proposal was handed to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Tuesday by PAD member Panthep Puapongpan.

Mr Panthep said the PAD would consider taking action, which might be a mass rally, if the government did not respond to the proposal.

@bkposter #22, when push comes to shove, the PAD and DP will be on the same side. As the saying goes: 'blood is thicker than water'.

The ICJ has no horse in this race so their decision should be completely unbiased. That must really scare the PAD.

Re: Boontong. I agree with that assessment 100%. But PAD feels that the laws of Thailand nor the international laws apply to them. They are and always have been in the minority, but still demand that they have some inherit right to have the government to bow to their wishes. Both the DP and the PT have never been able to get along with them for that reason.

PAD is irresponsibly playing with fire. To retain and regain power in the face of overwhelming popular opposition, they are resorting to rank jingoistic nationalism that could lead to war and, at the very least, will make Thailand a laughing stock among other nations. It already has an appallingly bad reputation for complying with international obligations. This will just throw gasoline on that fire and undermine Thailand's credibility when it does have a legitimate grevience.

It is OK for PAD to make proposals to the Government. However, PAD has committed an offense when it threatened to invade the government house if the government does not follow exactly what are in their proposal. The sitting government will do its best when arguing the case according to the international rule of law - not making demands.

Oldthaihand Disc 5. The access to the temple is defiantly in Thailand There is some sort of access from Cambodia but it cannot be easy. I have visited this temple 3 times. When it does come visitable again I wish more people could visit, but you have to be very fit to visit as it is not easy and requires much walking in the open heat.

ICJ Ruling must be respected and followed, or Thailand will be mocked in the international stage.

To D9 - Ok you have your say just for the sake of saying something in this forum. I don't know what part of the world you are living in, but playing ignorant doesn't pay. Rationalism and common sense are what we need to hear here. Don't take it personally, please.

There is a limit even of what Mob Rule can achieve in Thailand. And I don't think there is anything PADs can do to stop it, since all politicians since Chun Leakpai to YS have been so insisting that we give Preah Vihear to Cambodia in exchange for our financial interests there. So, in the end "Money talks."

Khmers empire has been in this region for more than 1000 years, there was no question that it built this temple, Siam built the nation, wanted more lands, grabed from Khmers by making war, got some of khmers lands added to the Siam's map, French invaded khmers (which some part already was on Siam map).Siam lost some lands to french, French drew the map, French left Khmers lands, French has no business any more here even it drew the map. 1962 ICJ ruled favored the Khmer. ICJ must have so many issues that needed to be solved at that time, did not study case in small detail. Thailand is a laughing stock, more laugh if it stop fighting.
