Thais pin hopes on early release

Cambodian PM steps in to help Veera, Ratree

Two Thais jailed in Cambodia for espionage and illegal entry are pinning their hopes on being released early.

The Cambodian Ministry of Justice is mulling Prime Minister Hun Sen's instruction to reduce the prison term for Veera Somkwamkid and to give a royal pardon to Ratree Pipattanapaiboon, a press statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Cambodia said Thursday.

The statement said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra asked the Cambodian prime minister during the Asean Summit in Phnom Penh in November last year to consider pardoning the two imprisoned Thais. She made the same request on Thursday.

The PTP led government abide by the rule of law and follow the justice process. The UDD/Red shirt looks at the big picture and will not allow the anti-government groups an excuse to accuse the government of favoritism, dictatorial .....

D7 Eric - Every UDD leader and VIP has been released on bail, but not the rank and file. It has nothing to do with the Dems and article 37, it has to do with being used as cannon fodder and then being abandoned by their party once the goal was obtained. Perhaps someday, the red brethren will finally realize how they have been (ab)used by their leaders and the PTP.

The good thing about this article is that two Thai citizens may be released and coming home soon. Doesn't matter how, who or why of the past, but of their future.

Fed up with these yellow shirt "patriots".

D6, I completely agree with you. Who said during the election that he can solve all the problems in Thailand if he was elected as PM in 99 days? Big talk but small action.

Bikeme dis#5, that's a rather curious question. The Reds were jailed by previous government and attempts to get them out of jail has repeatedly thwarted by the Demo Party refusal to change the article 37. The Demo Party is the reason why political Red prisoners not terrorists are languishing in the jail.

    D3, Thaibuzz,

"It is because of ppl in the current government that those 2 prisoners ended up in jail in the first place"
How did you come to that wonderful conclusion. Care to elaborate on that?

PT or UDD never told/asked/ordered them to go there. The only parties involved in this shameful affair (for Thailand) were PAD and the DEMs. And both parties dropped these 2.
So please, humor me and explain where the ppl in the current government came in.

D2 & D4 - If the PTP is so "magnanimous" and so concerned, how come they leave hundreds of red shirts languishing in Thai jails? Nope, this is just a PR stunt cleverly timed to help their chances in the upcoming election.

Pad supporters should now know that their leaders will sacrifice them to pursue their idiosyncratic and reckless ambition. Instead of protest to pressure the government of both sides to release their comrades, they rather embark on another campaign to provoke and put their supporters in harms way. Thank god that the army is firmly with the government and the DP is not in power.
