UDD: Mass reds gathering Jan 15

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) will hold a mass gathering of the red-shirts in front of Laksi temporary prison on Jan 15, UDD co-leader Jatuporn Prompan said on Friday.

Mr Jatuporn said the rally will call on the government to issue an amnesty decree for political prisoners of all colours, including members of the Anti-Thaksin Pitak Siam group.

The UDD co-leader insisted that the amnesty should not cover UDD co-leaders facing charges of terrorism and former premier and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and ex-deputy prime minister Suthep Thuagsuban facing charges of attempted murder relating to the 2010 protests.

@abbub. 'TS is not a political prisoner/fugitive'. Thank you for saying that. If only Thaksin and his cult followers would own up to that and stop trying to convince the world he is.

This country has unstable government. best thing to do, divide Thailand into small countries for those many factions coming out so each group can start making fence boundaries as high as 30 meters. Sure enough that will make everyone happy...

One wonders if they will be prevented from travelling to the rally.

    - "Abhisit Vejjajiva and ex-deputy prime minister Suthep Thuagsuban facing charges of attempted murder relating to the 2010 protests."

"Attempted" murder? I thought they face murder charges.

To the usual red shirt hating commenters' attacks against UDD as if TS was the issue, the proposal was regarding "political prisoners" not any others.

TS is not a political prisoner/fugitive.

One problem is Thailand denies having any political prisoners at all. Of course there are. But admitting so would be disastrous for Thailand's international image.

leaders who ordered others to commit murder should be brought to book, citizens who got involved in political movements and overstepped the mark in pursuit of political goals should be released

The red shirts need to be reeled in thinking they are above the law and can set govt policy. This has become a cause of "what is in it for me" as the red shirts that once rallied against govt power and abuse now seek the very same for themselves. Jataporn has increased his own personal wealth 10 fold since he joined the red-shirts and others are quick to follow. I believe now many of these red-shirts can envision themselves taking over key govt minister positions from any party and use their threats to back it up. How such a small minority can always control the people, govt, police and Army is beyond explanation

Since the UDD got the government they wanted I think they can stop their rallies now and talk to their MPs like good little democracy advocates.
