Soldiers rally against ASTV

About 50 soldiers protested at ASTV-Manager on Friday over its attack on army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, underlining a widening conflict between the army and the newspaper.

The soldiers from the 1st Army Region went to the media group's offices on Phra Arthit Road to vent their anger over an article that had attacked Gen Prayuth for failing to protect national interests in the land dispute with Cambodia.

ASTV-Manager was founded by Sondhi Limthongkul, one of the core leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

    Abub.. D:20.
IMO, it will just pose a greater risk if too much politicization at the grass root will be done. We used to live in a peacefull rural areas before where there is no factions among the villagers. That situation however didn't last long when politics entered in the place where groups or factions were created and became affiliated with political partties. These groups are now trying to outdo each other and evidently become the causes of conflict among the villagers. Too much politicization isn't good... to my knowledge.... everything that is too much is not good either

PATCHAR D19: Well yes, the politicians try to reap the rewards from bamboozling the people. BUt IMO more politicization, not less at grass roots level is needed.

There is hope if the UDD/red shirt can extricate itself from the Pheu Thai. There are unions to work with, cooperatives, even creating political party that does not cringe and tuck its tail between its legs when faced with "the establishment".

7 1/2 decades and 20 military interventions...the people have been de-politicized too long. They are fed up. And they are starting to wake up.

abub> D:18, It could be true that the abosent of political awareness among people is what allows a few to dominate the vast majority.

My point here is that, these people who are protesting are followers of a top officials who is obvioulsy allies of a political figures. All political factions are working hard to outdo the other which is to me too much politicking. The worst is, their obligations to the people are sett aside because of this conflict going on. Maybe Thai needs to learn from their neighbors

PATCHAR D16: "Laos and combodia will teach Thai people how to be united and live peacefully with out much thinking of politics."

IMO the opposite is true. Thais have been taught NOT to be think of politics. One of the main problems. Now the flow of information starts waking people to the fact politics exists and can, in their hands be used to better their lives.

Absence of political awareness is what allows a few to dominate the vast majority.

The day the UDD/red shirts realize they do not need phony leaders nor of the old type nor of the PT, they can become a political force for meaningful change.

    Bikeme,
Sondhi is certainly not "out on bail just like some people in the current government" as stated by Gleentea because Sondhi has ALREADY been sentenced NUMEROUS times to jail and it doesn't affect his life. So I would like the author of discussion 7 to give us his references when he states that a bail for someone not yet judged is the same than a bail for someone who has already multiple legal convictions.

Thailand is really disunited. all are making noise to demand their selfish interest. Time will come that Laos and combodia will teach Thai people how to be united and live peacefully with out much thinking of politics.

GLEENTEA and a few other commenters still try to use semantics and verbal ploys to trick their followers into not reading what is actually written.

The point is, it is one thing when soldiers follow a tiny minority to topple an elected government, but; totally different when soldiers rally to say: don't try to make us do it again.

It is obvious the PAD are still trying hard to get a general or two to back them and interfere with democratic evolution.

I do not condemn all coups. The Carnation Revolution in Portugal was a good one. It established democracy. The Cuban toppled Batista and the US Mafia.

D12 Subcoman - Sondhi was sentenced to 20 years for business fraud and is currently on bail pending his appeal. He has not been convicted of terrorism or anything else in relationship to the PAD's activities, just charged, same as many of the current PTP MPs and government ministers. And his case, like those of the UDD will drag on infiniteum due to incompetent police and crafty lawyers.

The red shirt supporters constantly demand the Army stay out of politics. Now when they see some soldiers appearing to support their side, they are delighted. That is different.

  • Discussion 12 : 12 Jan 2013 at 07.1712

    gleentea,

So, yes ok now name us one member of the government who has been already SENTENCED -and not in wait of the judgement- but already SENTENCED to even 10 years just like Sondhi has been ALREADY sentenced to 80 years and who is walking without ant incidence in his life.
Or even any Red Shirts key members who has ALREADY SENTENCED to 80 years in jail and who are walking free ? Do you mind to tell us when any Red Shirts trials have been delayed 15 times in 2 years because "police didn't get reports from witnesses" (from an event that millions people saw on TV) ?
    Waiting for dates and names...
