Govt moves to help detained Rohingya

Fears grow of US human trafficking downgrade

Authorities have pledged to look after the 704 Rohingya migrants rounded up in two raids.

The promise comes amid growing concerns that Thailand could face a downgrade on a US human trafficking watch list and risk sanctions by the US.

Immigration officers and police yesterday found a second group of 307 Rohingya migrants including more than a dozen children in a warehouse on the border with Malaysia.

    Disc2 Robins:
Maybe you should get a plane to Myanmar and have a look how the Rohingya people have to live their lives, being stateless people , being treated like dogs in stead of humans. Maybe then you understand a bit more why these people try to get out of this misery. You would do the same, being a Rohingya!!

I think the pressure should be on Burma and Bangladesh to find a solution for these people .

The higher up the social ladder the authorities look, the hi-so suspects will have quick and easy excuses which will shield them. Nobody important will get seriously fined or serve any time for such crimes.

I have writing for years that organized crime (drugs, prostitution, people etc.) will not be stopped until the real culprits are behind bars.

Arresting street punks and low level foot soldiers who do the dirty work is pointless because even when they do talk, the trail up the ladder is ignored in part out of fear, in port dues to bribes.

Those who run the show are often in uniform, hide behind power and wear fancy suits using legitimate businesses to make themselves appear as upstanding members of society.

In Thailand, there is almost total control from the top, and; who controls the controllers? Nobody.

It is a shame that foreign pressure is necessary to make the authorities do their job.

The government is not doing this from the kindness of their heart, the compassion of Buddhism or any reason other than the fear of being downgraded on a US human trafficking watch list and risk sanctions by the US.
    A caring sharing government.

There goes the US Government, preaching to the World again. It would be cheaper for Thailand to put all these refugees on a 747 and drop them off in Los Angeles so the US can care for them. People who willingly allow themselves to be smuggled are criminals, not victims.

Shouldn't be hard to find the politician. Just follow the trail of slime.
