Officials plan to deport 'illegal' youngsters

The Interior Ministry has come under fire for a Children's Day "gift" that will involve a change in the law and the deportation of stateless children born in Thailand.

SLEEPER OF THE HOUSE: Two-year-old Naruesorn Khunsat takes a nap in the prime minister’s chair during Children’s Day activities at Government House Saturday. Each child was given a three-second photo opportunity in the PM’s chair, but the queue was so long that by the time it was Naruesorn’s turn, he was too tired to smile for the camera.

The legal change will see the children's status altered from one that is indeterminate to "illegal immigrant", allowing them to be deported to their parents' home country.

Not so Brilliant There you go folks. That's the red version of compassion. They can't vote anyway so they're useless.

It's not about compassion it's about immigration. They entered the country illegally. You need a visa, right. They do too. They come here to be exploited. Is that compassion?

dao - "I guess all the stateless hill tribes have to leave .So much for tourism in Chiang Mai ."

No that won't happen Somebody influential in Chiang Mai is making too much money off them.

"Human rights lawyer Surapong Kongchantuk, chairman of the Lawyers Council of Thailand's human rights subcommittee on ethnic minorities, the stateless, migrant workers and the displaced, cynically called the Interior Ministry's draft law a "gift" as preparations for it coincided with Children's Day Saturday."

Mr. Surapong needs to take care that he doesn't end up the same place Somchai did.

One minute you want corruption, the next minute you don't. Please make up your mind. Think for yourself, not the party line.

It's not about the children. It's about an illegal activity. Every government/country has the choice. It's called Immigration. As you all know "Immigration" does not always make sense...it just is.

If you automatically give them Thai citizenship Thailand will become the dumping ground for families who want a better life for their children. You can't have it your way. Think before you speak.

Unfortunately, there are so many peoples that abuse all laws in every country. More than probably, these parents planned on their children(then hopefully themselves) being granted Thai citizenship at birth, just because the law stated that. Perhaps if you can look beyond the children to the root causes of this type manipulations, you can see the illegal attempts. This is not just a deep economic crunch in the world now, it is also a time that you MUST be very careful about conspiratorial concepts to your way of life. Sorry if this sounds cold, but maybe was at worst-bad timing....?....

I think the issue is that children should not be used as pawns by the parents to try and remain illegally in a country.

All illegal infiltrators should expect to end up being deported at some point, and having kids is irresponsible and not an excuse to evade having to obey the law.

This is not about the kids being mistreated by the law, it is about the parents putting the children in a position where they are used as political pawns.

All illegals, including kids, should expect to be deported at some point.

You are seriously going to go out and arrest and deport babies? Why not load them into cattle trucks while you’re about it?
