Thaksin should take 'economic role'

A majority of people think former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's role in Thai society should be on solving economic problems than on resolving political conflict, according to the results of an Abac poll revealed on Sunday.

The poll was conducted between Jan 7-12 on 2,071 people in Bangkok, Phetchaburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Pathom, Chon Buri, Kamphaeng Phet, Phetchabun, Chiang Mai, Maha Sarakham, Roi-et, Nakhon Ratchasima, Loei, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Narathiwat, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla.

Asked whether conflict in society would end if Thaksin was excluded from being involved in solving problems, 52.7% said "no" and 47.3% said "yes".

Thailand is better without TS. don't waste you time and effort defending this man already convicted of corruptions. What this man do to this nation is return all the money he lootedin all the years he reign as PM. Admittedly, loyal to him are around but these are just few that need to be ignored.

'...Thaksin Shinawatra's role in Thai society should be on solving economic problems..'

Shows how uninformed and misguided people are. Thaksin/PTP's rice scam is creating economic problems. What did Thaksin ever solve other than making himself very rich ? BKK traffic in 3 months etc..555.

Some more nightmares for the old yellow Thailand...

Khun Upthehill #26, but did any of the leaders of those countries you mentioned flee their country in order to avoid standing trial, or purposely rip their countries apart?

bangmodken #32-Sorry,I don't have the problem that you have. It is OK for you to rate him mediocre. I don't know what is you MOS. Thaksin was already a billionaire before his current enemies invited him to join politic was a fact. It was also a fact that many democratic countries invited him to give lectures and asked for his opinions. He was among the top 40 riches men in Thailand (23 in 2012) according to known assets, even after they were slashed by half. This also means he is a 'big income tax' contributors beside all other taxes on his businesses and GST. The poll result indicated that he should take an economic role - I agreed.

D7: Sorry to say, and this will hurt the red brigade, Thaksin did not come up with the rice pawning scheme. It is a direct copy of a policy under the Prem government in the 80's. It failed then also, otherwise we would now have by now an efficient and fair rice industry which we patently do not have, but has the important characteristic of being able to funnel huge volumes of money to his front line commanders of the red brigade (not the troops, mind you). No one can say Thaksin is stingy with money, especially when it is not his.

Couldn't agree more, provided he acts for Thailand's benefit. After of course resolving all outstanding corruption and criminal charges against him, by whatever means, ie defending and winning his cases or serving the time. Pretty simple stuff, really, isn't it?

Boontong,D29 : An economic role. For the Country or for himself? This poll implies "for the Country",which means "in the government". I believe your comment support this?
If it meant an economic role in his private business, there wouldn't have been a poll.
So again,I tell you that Thaksin is at best a mediocre business man and claiming he's a "big" tax contributor is a bit over the edge when you consider how much trouble he goes through to aviod paying them.
You should not just believe what I say,but do some research yourself. Maybe start with Thaksin wiki?

English Bob. Could you explain what the 500 baht is for. The video does not say. The tag said he could have been talking about old age pension. Let's hate him for starting to pay 500 baht instead of 50 baht for old people. If that makes him corrupt....

"A majority of people think............" - No, they don't.

Keep in mind, Polls such as this are done for and by Opposition sympathizers. These so-called Public Opinion polls do not represent the Public. The fact they reflect Opposition agenda's in the main, make them akin to "Agenda laundering' vehicles for said Opposition.
