Islamic group proposes shelter

More than 800 Rohingya migrants detained in Thailand should be given shelter and sent to a third country rather than being returned to Myanmar, an Islamic group said yesterday.

Islamic spiritual leader Chularatchamontri Aziz Pitakkumpon cries while speaking to police about the Rohingya migrants in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province yesterday.

The Central Islamic Council of Thailand said it would propose the central mosque of Songkhla province be used as a main shelter for Muslim migrants who have not been charged with any criminal offences.

Hi Do you guys believe that those Muslim came across ocean from Myanmar to Thai without food, no engine on board. They don't even speak myanmar to say that they are from Myanmar. I think it was intentionally planned by Muslim group to grow muslim population in Thai. How can those people across ocean with small boat with full people, no food, no engine. Did someone think about that? All those Muslim leader always show up crying, seem they are so poor in fact they are happy to kill other religion. They always swear to Allah when they kill Buddhist or other people. They got no learning except Muslim. People use brain think and not fall in trick

When someone immigrates to any nation, it is imperative that the immigrant learn the language and culture of that nation so that there is a single nation united, not a nation of parts. Diversity and multiculturalism is fine and to be expected but a guest masters the nation's culture, custom, and language first so as not to be troubled with unknown words, foods, and lifestyle. A true nation is a melting pot: a stew of all people blending together to make a better country.

D2,Khun Spiceman : I can't see why they have to become buddhists to live here? Plenty of non-buddhists lives peacefully in Thailand and is a positive part of this Country.
I do my best to follow Buddha's teachings but I'll never be a religious buddhist because I see buddhism as a philosophy, not a religion.

If they are sent to a 'Third Country', then make sure that it is a Muslim country.

spiceman D2: why would they have to become Buddhists to be able to live in Thailand. I'm living here since 17 years, have never become Buddhist and as I write this, I'm still alive.

(con) Just look at many Farangs who came to live in Thailand. Many of them married Thai husbands or wives, learn to speak Thai, even became Buddhists, and blend right in. So, I don't know what is their problem?

This is what the Burmese had done, to give them a place to live, and then look what happened years later. The problem with these people is that they don't assimilate with the countries that took them in. If they learn Burmese or Thai languages and become Buddhists, there won't be any problems with them. But we all know that will never happen. So, it's their choice to remain strangers in stranger lands.

I am so proud that Thailand show the compassion to looking after the refugee, because they not have anywhere to go, and they are people. It is better than what the military and Abhisit Government do when send them out by boat without the engine.
