Ministry cops flak over push to deport kids

Child rights advocates have demanded a review of a draft regulation aimed at deporting children born to parents who are staying in Thailand illegally.

They say the regulation drafted by the Interior Ministry goes against the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The ministerial regulation, if enforced, will make millions of children born to such parents _ including illegal migrant workers _ become "illegal immigrants" to be deported to their home countries, child rights advocate Pantip Saisunthorn said. She said the draft regulation was tantamount to pressing criminal charges against innocent children.
