Tarit targets Suthep over police station contracts

Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit on Monday suggested Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban may have tampered with the bidding to build 396 new police stations, most of which have still not been built, at huge cost to the state.

PCC Development and Construction Co (PCC) won the bidding to build 396 new police stations across the country for the Royal Thai Police at a cost of 6.67 billion baht budget during the Democrat-led Abhisit government.

The Royal Thai Police Office finally entered into a contract with PCC on March 25, 2011, and 877 million baht in advance payments had been made to the company.

Suthep is a sheep in wolf's clothing.

In the early 1990s he was minister in a government. He was given responsibility for distributing government land to farmers. He did, but...he did not stop there.

He was caught with his hand in the cookie jar when found to be giving land to his rich family friends.

That was the catalyst that forced the government at that time to resign. he has never stood trial for that.

Dig deep enough and put others under the same microscope as Taksin. There will be no difference.

'The Yingluck Shinawatra cabinet had subsequently extended the contract three times due to problems arising during the construction period, such as the 2011 flood crisis and delays in the delivery of supplies to PCC to enable constuction.'

Only now they see a problem.

"The Yingluck Shinawatra cabinet had subsequently extended the contract three times due to problems arising during the construction period...."

I know reading skills are lacking in reds, but this means that the PTP has been administering the contract since they took office. Any issues with payment or carrying out terms of the contract belong to them. Just another witch hunt by PTP and their lackey Tarit to take media attention away from the real corruption of hundreds of BILLIONS of baht in the rice scheme that has been renewed despite proven to be a total failure and PTP's total failure in the South.

There are no details of the contract, but the principle of letting a single contract, with the ability to sub-contract, is a reasonable procurement strategy. I can see the advantage of only having to administer one contract for very similar works, and had everything gone well then this approach may have realized a lower cost than having many single contracts. It would appear that the problem may lie with the management of the contract, and this should be the focus of any inquiry, not the procurement strategy. Mr Pengdit enjoys politicizing everything he is asked to, he appears to be a serial political opportunist.

Of course, I have no idea about whether Suthep is guilty or not. But since corruption is a part of politics in general, I am amused by the thought of what will happen when Pheu Thai is no longer in control. Tarit and the people behind the attacks on Democrat figures will also find themselves tied up with so many court cases for the rest of their lives that the courts will not be available for anyone else except the squabbling politicians. It is easy to pin 100s of court cases against a leading politician. There may even be 1,000s of cases against Thaksin since he is involved in everything. The thirst for revenge will soon become ridiculous.

So the DSI will hold a press conference to reveal the details before they question Suthep. Isnt that putting the cart before the horse? But then this is a witch hunt by the PTP.

  • Discussion 8 : 21 Jan 2013 at 21.368

canuck - "Wait till the Dem supporters read this. They will not admit corruption only point out that Thaksin is corrupt. This is always their defence. He didn't do it because, Thaksin is corrupt."

The contract was signed in 2011, but if you read AND comprehend, you;ll see that the PTP government has been responsible for the building of the stations.

"The Yingluck Shinawatra cabinet had subsequently extended the contract three times due to problems ..."

PTP owns and administers the contract. Period. Perhaps not enough tea money built in for PTP so they want to rewrite it?

Yawn. More desperate acts by the Puea Thaksin regime and their puppets, trying to force amnesty for their fugitive fuhrer.

Actually there is no need for you Red sycophants to start gloating yet, is there?

Tarit and a police source? May have tampered?

Sounds just like another day of PT trying to stifle opposition and force Suthep and Abhisit to toe the Thaksin line.
