"The Falklands are "merely 300 miles from Argentina". Britain is an island only 21 miles from France. Clearly, Britain belongs to ... uh France?"

NOooo... France 'belongs' to Britain because, along with the USA, Canada, Australia (& others) they saved France's backside in WW II!!! :>))

Why do the commanders of the armed services and police need to take part in a strategy meeting unless they are expecting a war with Cambodia if Thailand does not accept the ruling of the ICJ? Thailand would gain a lot more international respect if it clearly stated it would accept the findings of the CJC.

Can someone explain to me why the Thai Patriot's Networks calls the Temple "Preah Vihear" which is the Khmer name not the Thai name of "Prasat Phra Viharn".

Disc 17- The only way for Thailand to win the ICJ decision is if the ICJ adopts the newer US map. If they do that, not likely, then the entire border would have to be redemasrcated with that map. Individual countries agreeing would not have any bearing on the outcome. The ICJ in their decision stated the watershed line was irrelevant and not always followed along the entire border and the French map would be used to demarcate the border because both sides agreed to use it and had not raised any objection to it's use.

"The Thai people are [still] not aware that the Abhisit government tried to talk with Cambodia secretly about that issue," said the Cambodian premier."

    Ooopss!!!!

If this is accurate, we have the unfortunate case of Mark (pot) calling the kettle (TS), black. I would not be surprised as hypocracy is hardly new to Thai politicians, especially those who are out of power.

@discussion 7 - Cambodia and Thailand agreed to take the ownership of Preah Vihear before the ICJ. Justice Sir Percy Spender stated in his dissenting opinion that much of the "evidence" Cambodia presented was irrelevant (e.g. correctness of the map elsewhere). The court was asked to decide only on the border at Preah Vihear. Cambodia cannot demand a decision on the rest of the border unless Thailand agrees to it.

Khun Meldrew #13, applying the same standard of yours, it should be a done deal in favor of Thailand too, since the modern independent state of Cambodia only came into existence right after the WWII, when modern state of Thailand had already existed for several hundred years . Case closed, I suppose!

This is all being driven by domestic politics. Thailand's reputation when it comes to complying with international obligations is already appallingly bad and if Thailand backs out now, it will get worse. Yesterday we heard that Thailand is complaining that the US is not complying with international trade rules. Well, it cuts both ways. If you want to seek enforcement international obligations, you also need to be prepared to comply with them. It's not a one way street.
