I think that it is time for the citizens of the deep south to stand up and help put and end to this fanatical bloodshed. It is happening in the name of their god not any one else. If they are satisfied with the way things are let's just fence them in give them all weapons and leave them to sort it out.

Khun Jacksprat #1 & Mister2012 #2, this might seem to you as a complete mystery when something so awfully tragic like this keeps occurring over and over for thousands of time, and nothing has ever been done to stop it. The people in western countries would never tolerate it and demand a "whatever it takes" kind of solution to take care of the problem long time ago. In fact, western Govt would fall if it can't do it. But not Thais, for us it is the ultimate "Mai Pen Rai" as long as the people who are being murdered are not one of our family members. I suppose the teaching salary there must be worth dying for!

@discussion 2 - It hasn't always been like this. I have friends who grew up in Yala. They all say until about 2004 it was a peaceful and safe place to live.

These terrible stats sure makes South Thailand among the most dangerous places on earth.

Can still not understand why someone wants to become a teacher.

I hope they discussed the teachers' plight in the far south at the cabinet meeting in Uttaradit.
