Abhisit, Suthep sue DSI chief

Former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his former deputy Suthep Thaugsuban on Thursday filed a lawsuit with the Criminal Court against Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdit, accusing him of making false charges against them in connection with the crackdown on red-shirt protesters in April-May 2010.

The lawsuit was filed on their behalf by the Democrat Party's legal team led by Bundhit Siriphan.

Also named as defendants in the lawsuit are three DSI investigators.

@bandrew and other farang who have no idea what happened here in 2010.

Use rubber bullets ? That is like saying use water pistols against heavily armed, professional, extremely violent men. You must be joking or rely on the BBC for news. AV should have used more force: not less. What other government in the world would not have ? Please do not not cite the pathetic in comparison London 'riots'.

Sometimes fighting fire with fire is the wrong way to go. The Dems should have responded to the " men in black " with the army using rubber bullets rather than live ammunition.

Will this encourage those who were charged with terrorism charges by AV administration to also claim he against them in violation of Articles 157 and 200 of the Criminal Code? How about those who were arrested, jailed wrongly? Can they also use Articles 157 and 200 of the Criminal Code?

What to one side of the Political divide appears to be benign terminology, is anything but, to those from the other side. In this instance, the characterization of a 'crackdown' implies legitimate use of State Power for some, but is viewed as an "attack" by others. One side sees "violent protests', while others see it as justified defence against the attack by their political opposites. Many people say they can discern such differences, but that is impossible. If one only knows one side, how can they differentiate.

Good. And I hope and request that the court session be broadcast live, since all Thai people have the right to know how their country was managed during that bloody time when tens of thousands fully armed soldiers were on Bangkok streets.

Will be interesting to see the arguments presented by both sides in this case. Tarit may have shot himself in the foot by claiming "premediated murder", he should have gone for a lesser, potentially viable charge like manslaughter.
