Lampang ceramic plants close doors

Three ceramics plants in Lampang province, renowned for its pottery, have closed and others are for sale because the owners can't afford expensive fuel and higher wages, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

More plants will close or be sold, says the FTI, as the operators struggle with liquefied petroleum gas prices about 60% higher than they were a year aago, and the new 300-baht daily minimum wage.

Disc 1 Siamitude... Hmmm but productivity hasn't changed in the past 2 years, has it?

The difference now is a raft of expensive populist policies that are having a detrimental effect on SMEs. These closures, redundancies and businesses moving to neighbouring countries started recently... How do you account for that? Especially since all economic experts warned that these things would happen? Are you suggesting that it's all coincidence that it's happening on Peua Thai's watch?

@dickemery D3.... a devoted red voter and TS fan (Engineer) just complained to me about the increased price of eggs and everything. He blamed the democratic opposition for it. They don't let the government do its job.
you ask when they are going to learn? ... never

If the business cannot afford the gas how do they expect the workers to afford it with less than 300 BPD. It would be interesting to know what the workers were being paid per day before the wage increase.

Of course we should believe Nattawut, not the Federation of Thai Industries.

Productivity in Thailand is one of the lowest throughout SE-Asia.. this is what really burdens our economy, not the minimum 300 thb wage!
