Cops filmed 'extorting cashier'

Police were caught on video apparently extorting a woman cashier, demanding she post 50,000 baht bail for allegedly conspiring to sell counterfeit goods - a charge she says she vigorously denied.

The clip was uploaded to YouTube on Thursday by a user who went by the name Mild Pond, and was shared throughout the web.

The reputed victim posted on her Facebook page under the username Mild Love Jrt , saying that she worked as a cashier at a shopping mall in Bangkok. A copyright owner came to investigate the stall where she was working  and found that it was distributing counterfeit products.

    This is happening every day, every hour, every minute. Especially the Farangs are the victims. Myself have been forced to pay several times for crimes, not done. All to get rid of problems, like sitting in an police station for one day, trying to convince them I have done nothing wrong.
    99% of Thai polices are corrupt. It is stated in International surveys that Thailand is among the most corrupt countries in the world. And this is a Buddhist kingdom.

    Great! Hidden cameras should be used by everyone. Bad guys have a tendency to be less bad if they know they are being watched. In this new world, information rules.

    Just one of many examples of the police looking for money rather than doing their jobs .Please use your cameras and record these shady supposed officers .

    Taking photo/video and posting is the only way to at least
    slow this criminal activity down. Even a cop doesn't want his
    wife/children/friends seeing his corruption exposed. Some will
    also find it's way to the internet and TAT might actually,
    if they can, intervene. Kudos to the photographer !

    The COMPLETE story: Yes 50,000 baht for the bail. Then comes the threat to send you to jail. Your lawyer on the way, no use - go to jail at least for 15 minutes. Then you are asked for 5,000 baht for coffee and tea expenses of the cop. The money goes top to bottom, so lots of coffee. Then you are let out of the jail and can wait for your lawyer. Then the court case after a few months, a fine of just 2,000 to 3,000 baht. You pay it, get out of court and a few weeks later get the 50,000 baht back. The cops on the way from court, tell you that you can actually continue selling the stuff but, need to strike a deal with them first.

    @ploydonut, d12.

    Bail is something granted by a judge in a court of law, not by a policeman at the local police station.

    The 50.000 the police wanted in this case is extortion, and has nothing to do with bail. In any civilized country the police in the video would be in jail by now!

    To be honest, I doubt the average Thai policeman even know how to make a proper arrest, informing about the right to remain silent, right to a lawyer etc. as all they have ever informed anyone about is the right to pay a bribe!

    I know a Lance Corporal in the Royal Thai Police. She is a University Graduate. Her salary is 7,000 baht a month (minimum wage). And that's for a Graduate.

    It make difference if it is soldier or policeman? I am think they have both ability to extort the money, just like the Rohingya innicident. But I am thinking that if you do crime, then you pay the bail to leave is reasonable. Same with Red Bull policeman death accident.
