Abhisit admits Democrats in for tough fight

Sukhumbhand says his experience will win day

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has admitted his party's candidate in the upcoming Bangkok governor election, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, is in a tight race with Pheu Thai's Pongsapat Pongcharoen.

CANDIDATES CROSS PATHS: Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, an independent candidate in the Bangkok governor election, and Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, running under the Pheu Thai Party banner, exchange their candidate number stickers as they meet by chance while campaigning on boats on the Saen Saep canal Friday.

Results of the Abac poll released this week put Pol Gen Pongsapat in the lead on all measures gauging the popularity of candidates ahead of the March 3 election.

Dems had all along been in a tough situation since after the 2011 general election.

Thai people will choose the best and tested man, quite sure of that. Lets not be bothered with that polls conducted everyday. Because if that polls are true, then the PTP should celebrate now and just relax until March 3. every thing is unpredictables.. only one thing is predictable... that is change. hahaha

oldairman #39 - All that I read from your post are speculations. However, it is a proof that Thaksin's influence has been used effectively to defuse misunderstanding and conflict in the party he loves. 'Thaksin thinks; Puea Thai acts' does not mean Thaksin control. His advice and opinion are well sought after at home and internationally.
On your accusation of police officers - If you have no interest in lifting their morale, you have no right to complain or criticize them. You not only affect law enforcement but also encourage irregularities.

blobber #33 - You can have your opinion. I don't suffer from Thaksinitis.
dao #32 - If you do not live in Singapore, you have a very remote idea of the struggle for Nationhood, its vulnerability. The success of Singapore as a Nation speaks for itself. I don't suffer from Thaksinitis, Reditis
jacksprat #29 - I am not interested to know. Did you report the incident to the police? My cousins did.
oldairman #39 Thaksin has influence, and he has used that effectively, so far, in defusing conflicts within the party. That does not mean he controls the party and members are answerable to him. I don't have Thaksinitis.

If you make way for bicycles the motorcycles will drive on top of the cyclists. Come on...is this guy new to Bangkok. Motorcycles drive on the sidewalks made for people.

Khun bkk-farang I appreciate your agreeing with me. As I said, and as you say, you wouldn't ever get even one traffic ticket if the police were "totally corrupt" would you? On the other hand, stereotyping "all" police by the tiny number of traffic police you have personally met is certainly evidence you don't know too much about police - but have expertise in faulty logic and stereotyping. Repeat: If you have some evidence Pongsapat is crooked, corrupt, shady, whatever ... don't let anything but fear stop you from breaking that story the Bangkok Post itself can't get.

WOW! Reading all the comments from so many crying farangs here makes me almost believe that they think they can actually vote in this election! And even if they could, why would they want to, as they constantly accuse everybody of corruption and incompetence!

It's and early survey from one of many poll, might be different next week or a different polling agency and already you are all getting worked up and convinced the Dems are finished. Still lots of campaigning to do, wait and see, frankly I think a member of the RTP is an awful choice for a politician, and he lacks experience. After what the PTP tacitly supported at Ratchaprasong it would be rather surprising (and depressing), if Bangkokians were to reward them with that by electing their candidate.
