A Thai woman has been arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport for allegedly smuggling cocaine with a street value of more than 20 million baht into Thailand, police said on Sunday.

The woman was named as Natcha Lomchanthuek, who told police that before she arrived at Suvarnabhumi, she had flown from Peru and stopped over at Sao Paulo in Brazil, Singapore and Samui in Surat Thani province.

Police said customs officials found more than five kilogrammes of cocaine in her bag.

Good point D2 the charge sheet is confusing. Ridiculous even. Well 5kg of coke will get you a long sentence anywhere, she'll be lucky if she ever gets out of jail.
I still don't know why people risk life in jail for such little money and such huge risks. I wish people would just do their homework on how much of a bum deal they are getting and what the real implications are. Without mules the flow would diminish considerably

That's what I said... Isn't it?
Anyway, I didn't take into consideration 'cutting'. Getting 5kg into the country and then 'cutting' with other products would probably take the street value above 20m.

I'm in the wrong line of work. In Colombia a gram of pure coke costs $3.50 (on the street - less if buying 5kg). 5kg = 525,000 baht. That's a hell of a mark-up... I can see why the smugglers do it. Can't imagine why the mules do it.

There are 1000g in a kg. the Kilo at the beginning means thousand. so it basically means thousandgram, just like 1 km is 1000m .. so if your right about the street price it should be worth 1.500,000... way way off 20,000,000 ... still a very stupid thing to be doing.

It speaks for the stupidity of the woman, that she did not take the ferry from Koh Samui to Surat Thani. She could have avoided Suvarnabhumi easily. But sure thing, the way it did go, is the better way.

Amazing how stupid they are doing this, first does she really think that anyone believes this boyfriend story? And second why she didn't get just off at Koh Samui and took the bus? Everyone who has some brain left know that they use quite good sniffer dogs at Bangkok airport on top of it this stuff is very visible in the xray machine etc.

Hmmm A gram of cocaine on the street costs 3000 baht.

5kg = 15,000,000 baht.

20 million? I don't think so.
