Kamnan Poh transferred to VIP room in hospital

Whisked into care after shift to Chon Buri prison

Convicted murderer and former fugitive Somchai Khunploem was taken to a VIP room in Chon Buri Hospital yesterday only minutes after being transferred to Chon Buri prison from Bangkok.

The former "Godfather of Chon Buri" was moved from the Corrections Department hospital in Bangkok to Chon Buri prison yesterday morning, reports said.

His son, Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunploem, made the transfer request to the director-general of the department, who approved it.

They are very influent in Chon Buri which includes Pataya and one of the son is the Mayor of Pataya. Now I understand why the red shirts could attack the summit in 2008 and the police did not do anything.

With this single act, the Thai government has demonstrated to the world that there is no rule of law in Thailand, only the rule of influential people. Totally shameless.

All HiSo's in Thailand are above the law, this is exactly what is wrong with the country. It must stop!

the most surprising thing about this episode is that people are surprised?...this is a Man who controlled one of the most vice ridden areas of Thailand , now 3 of his offspring are in Thai politics ....its a never ending circle NOTHING will happen

May of the discussions here are forgetting the most important think here

It is the Thai way and Culture now days that any one who has money or is a member of Government do not stay or go to Jail

Why should he be any different to the other

For sure he should be looked after if sick then back to Bangkok Prison & treated the same as all other 30 year convicts

    I couldn't agree more with Discussion 22.

If the media was to report this the outside world that a criminal convicted of crimes punishable to 30 years in jail; is now living a life of luxury in the VIP suite of a hospital. Even after the prison doctor cleared him to be fit to serve his sentence in prison.

And Thailand is worried about a youtube clip.

Politicians dont go to jail because of their MP status .Government workers and police arent fired froim their jobs .They are just moved to an inactive post .Criminals with enough money arrange their own accommodation when they decide to let themselves be punished .If a common citizen breaks the law he is in jail in minutes .

So much for "no double standards".

VIPs do not spend time in prison. Everyone knows that.
