Southern militants turn guns on outsiders

The cold-blooded murder in Yala of four traders from central Rayong province has set alarm bells ringing in the offices of the security forces battling the insurgency in the three southernmost border provinces.

The four men from the eastern seaboard province were tied up and shot dead at close range by men who stormed into their hut in Yala's Krong Penang district about 1am on Tuesday.

They were in the far South on a regular visit to buy fruit from local farmers to sell in Rayong.

Police blamed insurgents tied to the Runda Kumpulan Kecil movement.

The group is known (somehow) as RKK. Pick up all known members and loan them to the Americans for interogation at one of the black sites that don't exist in Thailand. OK! There are no secret sites here. Send them on a military plane to Guantanamo. Might help, if its not too "cruel" to such hard targets, who shoot tied up victims. There are some Thai military capable of hard action when allowed by soft commanders. It's time to turn them loose and really fight a war on these terrorists,

Amazing that nobody in power seems to be asking why the Imams are not staying stop. Why organizations like the OIC are not saying stop. Are they simply scared of them?

There is no shortage of uniforms to go round at any photo op. of dubious value.

Perhaps it's time to ask the Royal Thai Police and teh Royal Thai Army to actually do something to protect and serve the Thai people instead of focussing primarily on looking pretty at carefully crafted photo ops?

Would they consider Chalerm an outsider?

"soft targets"?? don't blame the urgency for disarming the public.

"Lt Gen Udomchai said the army would still ensure the people's safety, although it was impossible to impose blanket security measures in all areas due a lack of manpower in the security force"
Apart from a couple of small border disputes and the urgent business of setting the unfortunate landless adrift at sea, what else legitimate is there for the 18th largest military in the world to do?

"The army would still ensure the people's safety " ? What "safety" ? and now what
"tighten up security" for the 50th time resulting in ?
