Asean urged to speak out on Sombath disappearance

Campaigners are urging Asean to axe the bloc's non-interference principle and determine the truth about the disappearance of Lao activist Sombath Somphone.

The principle bars intervention by other Asean states in the domestic affairs of any member nation.

The activists called for the principle to be overruled during a seminar at Thammasat University yesterday to discuss Mr Sombath's disappearance.
