Activists want 'CIA jail' truths

Thailand and the United States must come clean on allegations of Thailand's role in an alleged, 54-nation network of CIA-run prisons and torture houses in the post-9/11 months, human rights groups said Wednesday.

A 216-page report titled "Globalising Torture: CIA Secret Detention and Extraordinary Rendition" was the latest documentation made public Tuesday in the US by the Open Society Justice Initiative, a group funded by George Soros. It listed Thailand among 54 countries that helpd the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) in its campaign against al-Qaeda with "secret detention, rendition and interrogation programmes" after the Sept 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the US.

Pornpen Kongkachonkiet said her Cross Cultural Foundation group raised the issue with US President Barack Obama when he visited Thailand last November. The CCF statement was sent to the US embassy but there was no feedback or comments on the issue. The Thai government also did not respond.

These terrorists don't play by the rule (Geneva Convention), and in the old day, they would be shot on sight. The fact that they are allowed to live and put in jail is a big favor on our part. Should the "Activists" be much more concerned with what these terrorists are doing in the Deep South instead, you know, murdering innocent people on a daily basis? How blind can they be?

Thailand could have treated these detainees as nice as it is now doing for Rohingyas. Rohingyas are looking for place to stay, no intention to terrorize Thailand or Malasia but if these two countries deny them entries or elses they will join Al-Qaeda or become terrorists then Thailand can torture them by withold two desserts a day. it is more humane than what being done years ago. Tee lung ya tam, tee lung ya tam (Don't do it again and again)

Disc 2,The Dark Side: Blame everything on Thaksin. That seems to be the mindset these days. If former PM Thaksin done as many corruptive things as other's claim he done, the PM wouldn't have had time to sleep. Frankly speaking, I believe PM Thaksin is a brilliant man who dedicated his work to helping Thai-people.

Ms Pornpen said CIA methods of interrogation included using nudity, sleep deprivation, loud noises, temperature and dietary manipulation.

These are the people that killed over 3,000 of all races and religions on 9/11 as she is complaining they were too hot or cold and not fed well.

Pornpen or the other academics have nothing to say about terrorists based in Thailand killing teachers by bashing them to death or beheading them.

The murder rate here exceeds Afghanistan. That's just not sensationalist enough news is it. What lack of scruples people like Pornpen have.

Who Cares, what about the thousands of innocents slaughtered by the terrorists. I am not a US fan but all these do-gooders should take a look at how many serious attacks there have been in the last ten years, intelligence must be doing some good

I can't buy into this. The man with the plan at the time was Taksin. This guy has always though that he is a cut above the rest and scorned the US. I can not believe he agreed to this kind of thing unless is involved lots of cash in his, his wife's, his son's, his daughter's, his brother in law's, his sister in law's, his maid's, his gardner's pocket. Guess it is a tough call after all.
