Xanax banned over sex crimes

The Public Health Ministry has suspended sales of a stress-relief drug after it was used in sex crimes.

Two ministerial decrees are being issued which will make Alprazolam a banned psychotropic substance. Alprazolam is the generic version of Xanax.

They ban the manufacture, sale, import, export and possession of the drug, and will take effect on June 17, the Food and Drug Administration secretary-general Boonchai Somboonsuk said.

    This article does not state the extent of the drug diversion problem except that sex crimes have escalated, some victims have died and some addicts take with 4x100. Why almost a complete ban? Some people take this drug on prescription from their doctor. Some people take pseudoephedrine as a decongestant. Not everyone is a drug addict or criminal. Why don't you ban cigarettes or alcohol that are the cause of many premature deaths?

    ...just another "panic attack" on behalf of ignorant and uninformed politicians, that btw, have no business making 'medical' decisions. I've used this medication for more than a decade... I am not an addict, consume a single tab of 0.25mg per day, tried and tested dozens of alternatives, and this is the only "medication" that has relieved the life-long burdon of agoraphobia and panic attacks... actions like this merely require appropriate regulations and proper Law Enforcement... they keep pushing, and I'll remove myself, my Thai wife and daughter abroad!
