Democrats slam pledged rice quality

MP shows parliament ‘rotten' grain from Surin

A Democrat MP Thursday sliced open a bag of the government's pledged rice in parliament in a bid to demonstrate shoddy quality control of the stored paddy.

Warong Dejkitvikrom, the MP for Phitsanulok, said the rice, retrieved from Surin, was brown and rotten.

His display in the House drew protests from government lawmakers.

I silly and typically democrat ploy to divert people's attention from their own wrongdoings while in government and now try to act according to Thai nightly soap opera scripts.

Having said they, I think the best thing the PTP can now is is exactly what was said: take journalists to the warehouses.

I have for years written the millers are exploiting farmers and in cahoots with politicians. But not necessarily red ones.

The democrats are showing how desperate they are by resorting to theatrics.

    @boontoong, d23 and others

Does this below quote answer your first question?? Further, Mr. Nathavut blames Mr. Warong of stealing, so he seems to agree that the bag is from a government warehouse.

"The sack had all the necessary codes showing its origin and production year, but lacked details of the rice mill, Mr Warong said."

Secondly, I agree, one bag does not prove anything, which is why Mr. Warong challenged the following:

"He challenged the government to open up its warehouses to reporters so they could see for themselves."

Can you explain to me, and others, why both the rice storage and the G-to-G rice deals have are kept

It would take a great deal of effort to go through many bags of rice to find a rotten one so we should perhaps conclude it was a random sample (much like the polls are supposed to be). The bigger sin here is the reaction of 'what were you doing in the warehouse'? If there is nothing to hide why shouldn't an MP be allowed in a 'public owned' facility?

The really sad part is there are starving people in the world who could eat it with out having to let it rot in a warehouse .Would it be too much losing face to at least give it to the poor .The stupid train has left the station .

I see a lot of politicking and attempted face-saving here.

Instead, try focusing on what is right, rather than who is right.

Furthermore, no politicians, regardless of their stated affiliations, can be trusted at all. The only thing they are good at doing is distracting the people from relevant issues while getting paid to accomplish absolutely nothing of importance. In politics, no one is clean.

The "pledging scheme" is just another "hook a brother up foundation". If the people really did not want things this way, they would find a way to stop it. Public apathy is a politician's best friend.

brilliant - How do you know it was the origin sack based on this news report. Did you see it and certain about its origin? The issue is not there is no rotten rice. It is about Warong showing just a sack of rice and then generalize it that there is shoddy quality control of the stored paddy. His evidence is not strong enough to help the government to punish miller and warehouse officers.

djjp #15 - You are entitled to your opinion so am I. However, you and some of the posters here show an arrogant attitude that only you are entitled to comment. The DEM showed us one bag of rotten rice from Surin and concluded that there is shoddy quality control on the part of the government. Investigation is certainly needed here as to the origin, and the warehouse and miller concerned if the bag shown in parliament is not bagged by Warong.

Disc14# I understand Mr. Warong's frustration. He is up against people that dodge and hide the truth and when it is exposed to them they still make up some fancical story to prolong the deception. Not unlike Bert and Ernie on this site (names not mentioned to protect the guilty) though the PTP at least have reasons to hide the truth to allow for the PTP to stay in power to bring Thaksin back. I do not understand Bert and Ernies drive though. Maybe just jumping on the bandwagen perhaps? The PTP followers are not renowned for their free thinking.

Nattawut has clearly reached new depths with his pathetic denials and red excuses...But should we expect anything else from the incompetent and dangerous red leadership????
