Democrats slam pledged rice quality

MP shows parliament ‘rotten' grain from Surin

A Democrat MP Thursday sliced open a bag of the government's pledged rice in parliament in a bid to demonstrate shoddy quality control of the stored paddy.

Warong Dejkitvikrom, the MP for Phitsanulok, said the rice, retrieved from Surin, was brown and rotten.

His display in the House drew protests from government lawmakers.

“There are huge quantities of stored rice and it is impossible to ensure all the rice is in perfect condition, he said.” Just this morning I saw a commercial on TV about the extensive quality control measures that are in place for Thai homali rice. Amazing Thailand just gets more amazing by the day

musashi - seems like your quite the expert on fake commodities and how to create them as well as creative accounting to hide losses. Is it a surprise you're a red? Not at all.

Boontong and Musashi trawling again. The only people on this site that can argue the sky is green and keep a straight face. The scary thing is they probably believe it. If stored in optimal conditions rice will last 30 years or more. FACT - Stored in hessian bags in shed at 25 to 30 degrees it will last 6 to 12 months. If they haven't sold last years rice there is not much chance of selling it this year on top of this years harvest. Of course the sky is green though so anything is possible.

D6 and D9 received majority "dislikes" for their comments, but they were right on the money. You don't have to agree with the rice scheme to know that Mr. Warong's showboating is easily transparent.

johninbkk - "I have an opened bag of Thai sticky rice in my closet. I've kept it there for nearly 2.5 years. It hasn't gone bad."

I doubt your closet is an open warehouse with zero climate control. Your statement makes no point. At all.

boontang - "I also know how to make a bag of rice rotten, re-bag it, so I can slice to open it later to show how it works."

Apparently you didn't read the story. It was in the original sack.

Amazing how good(in their opinion) reds have gotten at deflecting from the original story.

The Opposition is duty bound to unravel curruption for good of the country but this kind of sales man tactics just don't cut it. AV has set up a committee to investigate and visited the government warehouses to uncover corruption. What happen to this committee findings? DP has made several allegations before but yet can't present a convincing case and still carry out this amateur antics in Parliment. It will only show them as disorganize and desperate and will not fulfill their opposition responsibilities.

Mr Nattawut fired back at Mr Warong, asking how he gained access to the government's warehouse to take the sack of rice.
He accused Mr Warong of trespassing and said he would instruct the Internal Trade Department to lodge a police complaint against him.
Instead of accusing Mr Warong of trespassing Mr Nattawut should be chasing up how many bags of rice are bad. Instead of secrecy Mr Nattawut should welcome openness or people will start to wonder what else has been hidden under the cloak os "government secrets".
Honesty and transparency are terms unknown to the PTP.

Natthawut is duty-bound to protect the policies of the Boss. The truth about the rice scheme will be irrelevant to him because he is a politician. Very soon we will hear that the previous government is to blame for everything, hence the investigation is going back 3 years; that the rice bag is a "Fake Rice Bag"; that Mr. Warong is receiving one of Prompong's brown envelopes for lieing; and we will receive "proof" that there is absolutely no corruption in the rice scheme and that the farmers always receive the full amount due. Then the pirate ship will sail on until the next storm tomorrow.

It was a great show at the parliment with one bag of rice but wouldn't it have been better to have video proof showing thousands for rotten bags if this is all true. Very theatracial if you ask me.

Rice must be stored cooled and preferably oxygen tight. Then it can last for years. However, if stored in a facility not meeting the requirements like the basement of a building, Airport or any any other place that Thailand right now use for buffering the over-supply rice sacks ... it will barely last a year.

Thailand best chance is to use the old-rice as pellets for power-plants.
