Members of the red- and yellow-shirt political camps have reached an agreement to press ahead with a pair of political amnesty bills.

Pheu Thai Party list MP and red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) core leader Korkaew Pikulthong, and Parnthep Pourpongpan, a core member and spokesman for the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) met at parliament on Thursday at the invitation of deputy House speaker Charoen Chankomol.

The meeting was revealed Friday by the two leaders of the rival colour-coded groups.

Khun Lek dis#42, I have checked with my Thai lawyers. Taksin conviction is a minor case and the statute of limitation is indeed 10 years. However he does have 3 charges against him whereby warrant of arrest was handed out which has a limitation of 15 years. That's why I factored that in plus the fact that there is a 5 years ban on convicted case and conclude that he can't be in politics till he's 74. He is really done himself out of politics.

I completely fail to understand the logic of the PAD position, as stated above, that the rule of law must be upheld and those who broke the law must be punished. The PAD, in their occupation of Government House and seizure of Bangkok's two major airports to name but two of the most obvious examples, broke the law at least as much as their political opponents in the latter's subsequent protests against Abhisit's government.

In a democracy the MP represent the views of the people not themselves as in Thailand.The idea of an amnesty is all wrong.This way you will never rid the country of corruption. Amnesty's generate the wrong mind set,we can get away with it attitude.

This is the amazing nonsense Thailand live everyday.
In this country everybody who is honest and truthful is a fool.
But the poeple who broke the law get rewarded with millions of Baht and amnesty.
Such a society cannot exist forever.

All the posters who think that this might mean that the reds are slowly moving away from Thaksin and the PTP are living in dreamland. Korkaew is the most pro Thaksin of any of their leaders. The reds will only styart to move away from Thaksin when they get new leaders. The current group are totally in Thaksin's pocket

The red shirts do not want to help any of their members who are in jail. They are more useful to them because they can use them as propaganda for themselves. The reds rushed to free their elite leaders but left the rank and file in jail. Anyone who thinks the reds are not led by a set of elites are misguided.

the trickster is using all his tricks he can muster up,firstly he tried to fast track this reconcillation noncense bill,av used his political knowledge to stop it,as it was unlawful,due to the fugitive lack and badly advised cronies ,he then wants to tear up the consitution bible which was only slightl amended,to have better access to remove the pm in power,if he abused his power,which was experirnced ,when he defied the law when caught out,now he realize he cannot manipulate the other 70@ of the population,in a publis referandum,now he trying to cast a new spell that is insincre,no amnesty for convicted criminals

Do not be fooled by MP Korkaew one of the major instigators of the terrible red shirt mob violence in Bangkok. How is it possible he is in jail because he is a criminal, and yet he is allowed out of jail every time there is a parliamentary session????? Then he goes back to jail immediately after the session????? Only in Thailand. I have never seen or heard anything so ridiculous it defies imagination. Do not be fooled by this attempt to seek amnesty for anyone and do not believe that Thaksin will be excluded either. This is a Thaksin ploy to test the waters to see what possibilities there are left to get amnesty ultimately for him.

Eric@disc. 30. Statutes of limitation apply only to the bringing of charges. Thaksin was convicted and therefore his sentence will apply no matter what.
