The Central Plains farmers who survived last weekend's fatal attack on their convoy in Pattani have vowed to continue their work to restore rice-growing in the South, saying their two slain colleagues would have wanted them to complete the job.

Saneh Khunnen, 28, and Ekkarin Homchoey, 26, were killed and 11 others injured when gunmen opened fire on them late on Friday evening in Yaring district's tambon Bo Loy.

They were part of a team of 20 farmers from Sing Buri and Suphan Buri provinces taking part in a project funded by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) to educate locals on restoring rice farming in abandoned southern fields. All the participants had been recruited from Suphan Buri's Buffalo Village, a renowned rice-growing centre.

Yes what brave people my hat goes of to them.There is an important question though.Would they be doing this for the price of rice if it were allowed to find its market level and not inflated by the rice pledge?It has to be said.

I salute these brave people who,despite the recent tragedy,are still dedicated to help the southerners. Such bravery! Respect! May Buddha and Allah bless them manyfold.
D5 : They might be sponsored by SBPAC but it is obvious that they have a genuine desire to help their fellow countrymen and I does not seem to be financial rewards that drives them. I think your comment is arrogant,totally misplaced and just plain stupid.

The Central Plains farmers who have returned to the Deep South after the dastardly terrorist attack on their co-workers are really true heroes, and have my deepest respect.

And to address the other commenters remarks...... I suspect that the security interests of Thailand wouldn't be served by sending Thailand's very own version of Mr. Bean to the southern provinces for a visit, even though he is the DPM.

These farmers are sponsored by military and police. They looking for trouble not for peace. Both side should stop provoking each other.

Good for them.

A fine example of courage and commitment even to putting their lives on the line.

What a great example for the government to follow. Chalerm can go and live with them to SHOW his commitment to the security in the South instead of just talking about it. As for his personal security he has the whole of the THai Police force under his control.
