Five soldiers killed in Yala car bomb

Five army soldiers were killed and one seriously wounded in a car bomb in Yala's Raman district on Sunday morning.

Police said the incident occurred at about 7.05am on Wang Phaya-Tha Thong road in tambon Tha Thong of Raman district. Two rubber tappers working nearby also were wounded in the attack.

An investigation revealed that the six army soldiers from the Yala Task Force 12 were travelling in a six-wheel truck after being assigned to pick up workers at a model farm at Ban Upoh in tambon Wang Phaya.

Howiwish. You are not serious or informed about terrorism. Jemaah Islamiyah in Indonesia twice? Hardly. JI had hundreds of attacks for years, across the country and into neighbouring countries. Not now of course, because of the unremitting, unwavering, uncompromising FORCE used by the Indonesian and friendly governments used against it. JI still lurks, terrorists always lurk. But JI has little ability or intimidation because ONLY force was used against JI. Same with all al-Qaeda-type groups worldwide, and that is for starters. Same with Germany and Japan. And others.

Donduck, I think you should read Bluebottles point a but more carefully as he states "not one single country has overcome terrorism by force and that includes countries with some fairly sophisticated weapons and devices", you are highlighting countries that have terrorist attacks against, either once or twice. Bali bombings Jakarta attacks are twice in Indonesia, what force by weapons did the Indonesian govt. use to rid terrorists? Sorry terrorists are still in Indonesia, same as Iraq, the "War against weapons of mass destruction" was and still is a cause for terrorists attacks in Iraq. ISAF forces have not defeated terrorists in Iraq either!

"local population / community (including families and friends) are threatened with reprisalas (including possible death) if they speak to authorities" This tactic is MAO's tactic of doing Querrilla War(ใช้ชนบทล้อมเมือง). It has been successful in China(1959), Indochina(1975)and continuing in some part of northern India right now. It seems that we don't have the method of modern warfare can fight this deadly tactic(look at Iraq and Afghanistan right now). Even Afghanistan during 1980s USA helped Mujahedin using Mao's tactic successfully beat Soviet Union the occupier.

Howiwish, you are very young, so your homework for tonight is only two names: Baader-Meinhoff and Japanese Red Army. Yes, these terrorist gangs conducted continuing, continuous and continual attacks - not only on their own countries but on others. The other countries listed, similar. You sure you didn't read something about Iraq? Hard to believe you are that young. Or Indonesia. "Jemaah Islamiyah" doesn't ring a bell? Bali? Nightclubs? Jakarta? Hotels?

A curfew will not solve the problem, the reason the separatists have such success is they control the ground they set the agenda, rewards for information will bring out every scam artist in Thailand, and will end up putting innocent people in prison.
The military should never have been given a role in the south, it should have remained in the hands of the police and local government, but police and government don't seem to be in touch with the local population, something which holds true for the rest of the nation.

Disc#23, Donduck, are you quoting countries that had a single so-called terrorists attack or continued terrorist attacks similar to south Thailand? I can't recall UK, Germany, Japan or Saudi Arabia having on-going attacks like the south. Iraq is still having terrorist attacks almost daily, with another occuring today, and will continue to do so with no resolution in sight. I have worked for a number of years in both Iraq and Afghanistan so I've seen terrorism at possibly its worse.

Disc #12, Kasper, good to see you have summed up the real situation of the south, may I add, that unfortunately, these militants, insurgents, terrorists whatever we would like to call them ensure that the local population / community (including families and friends) are threatened with reprisalas (including possible death) if they speak to authorities. Unfortunately it's hard for the pollice or military unless they can catch them in the act, as its not as though these militants dress different to stand out in the crowd.

    THE REASON FOR SILENT GENERALS
Most people missing hear ONE important point:
Some generals are getting huge sums of commissions over guns and military equipment bought for military. This is an extraordinary income for them. And after this kind of attacks those doubleface falcons are laughing inside, as this is a good justification for buying and the need for them and war is proved once again!!!

The more attacks, the more military buying and bigger military budget,
The bigger the budget, the more happy some generals.

bluebottle, well no country except Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Spain, the UK, Iraq, Singapore, Iran, Somalia (ongoing), Saudi Arabia, Peru, Indonesia, China... Actually, using force against terrorism has a terrific success rate. I believe you may be thinking of state-supported guerrilla warfare???? Which has nothing to do with Thailand and/or its South.

I very much agree with waters, d16. Especially the reward part. Offer a substantial award to anyone who can identify a terrorist. Odds are that even their mothers will turn them in!
