Low cost airline Nok Air has been roundly criticised over a web PR promotion offering calenders with pictures of women in bikinis posing next to one of its passenger planes.

Nok Air, which is based in Thailand, announced on its Facebook page that people who participated in its online campaign would receive the airline's 2013 calendar.

Personally I find this kind of promotion also pretty tasteless. What gets me is the ever "tarnishing Thailand's image" buzz phrase. Hello? Thais still don't realize that it's the biggest 'al fresco whorehouse' in the world? And that is because there is a massive income gap, and nothing is ever done about it. Only superficially.

Someone should stop giving the culture ministry any press space at all, it's getting really boring...especially the rubbish about the problem being that 'foreigners might see it'...it's all about the foreigners, isn't it?

The fact is that this calendar campaign is low class trash - if the airline wants to position itself there, then fine. This is the sort of rubbish that every garage mechanic had up in the workshop back home in the 1980's. Times have moved on.

If Thailand want to improve its image abroard, it should start by closing all gogo-bars and massage parlours as well Pattaya and Bangla road in Phuket.
