The Marine Department Tuesday halted the plan by Bangkok passenger boat operators to raise fares on water taxis.
The department ruled that differences in cost structures used by the agency and the operators made agreement impossible on figures that could back new, higher fares.
The department’s director-general Sorasak Sansombat said the proposal to increase ticket prices for boats operating on the Saen Saeb canal and the Chao Phraya River, including ferries, could not be considered unless a standard cost structure was first established and mutually agreed by both sides.
