SBPAC: No compo for killed militants

The families of the 16 militants killed in an attack on a marine base in Narathiwat's Bacho district on Wednesday are not entitled to standard compensation of 7.5 million baht, but will receive remedial assistance and psychological counselling, Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre (SBPAC) deputy secretary-general Lertkiat Wongpothinan said on Thursday.

Mr Lertkiat was commenting on a report that the government would consider giving compensation to families of the militants killed in the attack.

He said this raised false hopes that the families would be entitled to 7.5 million baht compensation - the same as the families of innocent people who lost their lives in counter-insurgency actions taken by government forces.

Compensation should not be given to exiting family for those who joint militants or insurgents groups so as to discourage the innocent or misleading citizen into joining this groups. It's best government advertise on TV to warn citizens of joining the insurgents or militants will face the NO from the government to compensate or help given to them.

When Thaksin supporters are wounded or lose their lives while killing and injuring our security forces, they are compensated and granted bail with our tax payments.
But others who do the same are not? Why these double standards?

On a side note,Thailand must be the only country in the world that compensates criminals for getting killed or injured while breaking the law.

I can't believe this!!! The adult family members should be brought in for questioning. In this type of war families and friends are the support mechanism for terrorists. They will be able to supply vital intel. Somebody don't know how to fight and low intensity war.

I am slightly confused: militants attack a marine base, thereby get killed and their families are seeking 'compensation'... ?
