Chuwit targets police station scandal

BANGKOK - A large sign drawing attention to alleged corruption in the construction of police stations nationwide has gone up near the Royal Thai Police Headquarters in Pathum Wan district of Bangkok.

Maverick politician Chuwit Kamolvisit says the sign is one of 2,000 that a team from his Rak Thailand Party plans to erect around the capital.

The message on the sign near the police headquarters says: "396 police station projects with a budget of 5.848 billion baht. Don't let corruption continue". It is the 1,521st sign to go up, according to Mr Chuwit.

corrouption here is already a deep-rooted problem that no politician dare to correct as most officials are involve. The government as early as first week of January have already estimated the exact amount of money tourist will bring in here this year. Each one have already an idea on how much money they will have from the tourism department alone but the life of people from the villages have change to nothing.. though government are talking about trillion dollars they will eran from tourism but no improvement of life can be seen so far for the poor.

It is strange however that those signs are erected around Bangkok during the Bangkok election campaign.

In Thailand you still have to be very careful about what you say about whom. We are not allowed to speak against the invisible hand that ordered the coup of 2006. When asked who ordered it we were just told " It wouldn't do any good to expose this person". How is an answer like that sufficient? Maybe time in jail would soften his tongue and/or oppinion. Maybe this is something Chuwit can do next. If nobody shots him first. He's a brave man for standing up.

Chuwit attented university in the USA. Perhaps he listened to a lot of Bob Dylan, perhaps he obtained more than a "trophy degree" Perhaps he can be the Thai Michael Moore.

    Go Chuwit.

Forget his past, we have more than 200 people in parliament with a shady past. But you gotta admit that this guy has the guts to speak out. Speak out on things that we already knew but were afraid to talk about. To be honest, Thaksin's (self) declared servant has never been able to provide a fitting answer to Chuvit's disclosures. They guy has a dramatic way of exposing things, at this point - he is one of a kind that society desperately needs.

I would welcome a real war on corruption especially regarding the police and the government .

Disc 5 CMFarang - Chuwit told us... At the height of his success, he was paying up to 20 million baht a month.

Chuwit's reasons might be colourful and not of the "respected" social classes, but that does not make anything he says false.

He knows a lot about corruption from personal experience, and unlike most Thai and traditional Thai culture, he does seem to want to do something to make Thailand a better place for Thai people. And that is something to be commended.

After making a fortune in the massage parlor business, I wonder how much Mr Chuwit paid the police for his licence to operate.
