DSI says 14 resorts encroaching

Land Department to assess legality of land plots in Phuket

The Department of Special Investigation says that 14 hotels and resorts in Phuket have encroached on national park land, sparking a probe by the Land Department to verify ownership of the concerned plots.

Pol Lt Col Prayuth Wongsrinil, chief of the DSI's Consumer Protection and Environment Bureau, said 14 hotels and resorts allegedly encroached on as much as 3,000 rai of Sirinat National Park.

Sirinat is a marine park covering an area of about 60,000 rai in Thalang district.

How can it be newsworthy if you don't name the 14 resorts?

The world has never heard of Thai land encroachment, but Thailand is world famous for corruption, prostitution, crime and fleecing tourists.

News Flash, Inspector Tarit found evidence that one encroacher once voted for a Democrat in an by-election. Tarit said this is clear evidence of the involvement of AV and Suthep because they led the democrat party and must have influenced the encroacher to encroach.

An arrest warrant will be issued as soon as the ink is dry.

"However, the DSI will deal with the situation with an eye on minimising negative impacts on investment and tourism." That is most unacceptable, the law is the law or are we saying it's okay to have double standards? If the agencies concern takes this attitude soon there won't be any green areas in Thailand.

Again, the soft approach...How sad. It seems that making money is the God in Thailand. Illegal is illegal with all its consequences. Show them what will happen when they do it again. Bulldozer the resorts to the ground; on their expenses of course. Rip them financially; no remorse...

Considering the advance notice I am sure title of these resorts has already passed from high ranking officials to taxi drivers, street vendors, and the like - mostly deceased/missing !

I laughed at the bit about the Phuket Land Department carrying out an investigation. Maybe they don't know about the public perception of their department. Let me put it this way. It is extremely unlikely that the department will find a single irregularity in the history of land sales in Phuket.

"Representatives of the Parks Department raised concerns that forcing the resorts and hotels involved to close would hurt tourism and foreign investment in Phuket."

Not really... there are plenty of legal ones... I think that the opposite is true: allowing them to stay open will only encourage more illegal transfers.
