Iran confiscates Buddha images

TEHERAN - Buddha images have joined Barbie dolls and characters from "The Simpsons" TV cartoon as banned items in Iran.

Authorities are currently confiscating statues and other images of the Buddha from shops in the Iranian capital "to stop the promotion of Buddhism in the country", according to a report Sunday in the independent Arman daily.

Iran has long fought against items, such as Barbie toys, to defuse Western influence, but this appears to be the first time that Iranian authorities are showing an opposition to symbols from the East.

"... are showing an opposition to symbols from the East ..." we are running out of about everything, but must show 'eternal strength'. Sounds pretty familiar.

Just a step away from Taliban destruction of ancient Buddha images in Afghanistan.

Millions of non-buddhists, love and respect Buddhism. Christians, Hindus and even Jews have incorporated some of Lord Buddha's teachings into their daily life. I am not against islamists but, if all these people want to do is to isolate themselves from the rest of the world, why don't we ask them to ALL gather on ONE single content and give them that continent. Will that satisfy them? Will they really be able to attract all Islamists to that ONE continent? Too much of hate, desctruction and death, lets not keep blaming them or blaming ourselves. Let us come to a rational conclusions. If you click 'dislike', let us have your suggestions.
