Abhisit: Chalerm wrong for South

The government should get someone else to handle security affairs in the restive South instead of Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Monday.

Mr Abhisit said it is time that the government reviewed its performance in tackling issues in the deep South and re-evaluate the role of a deputy premier who supervises security but is not willing to travel to the region.

Not often but this time I agree with Ahbisit. Chalerm is too impulsive, stubborn and does tend to bully his way into decision and really not suitable for solving south problems that need understanding, amicability and a listening ability. Unfortunately, he will be hard to be removed as he has too big an ego. I hope he understand his short coming and resign from the position.

I don't think even the most ardent of Red Shirtist can argue with that point (but they will).

Chalerm has been totally ineffective and worse; totally uninterested.

Anti-Democrat Party types will often accuse that Party of being more involved in this Southern problem than they let on. As evidence, they will often point to the fact that when the Democrat Party is in opposition, southern problems seem to flare up more than usual.

Is Abhisit suggesting above, that hardships suffered by civilians because of the insurgency is the Government's fault? Like when he suggested flood disaster deprivations were Ms. Y's fault, when her management of it were second to none, compared to other International disasters.

Why is Thaksin's name often prefaced by 'fugitive', and not Abhisit by "alleged murderer" I wonde

AV should remind his Southern MPs to corporate with security Agencies and play an constrictive role. If they cannot, they will face the boot by the party or other political party will boot them out.

Maybe the government could offer Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva the role as Special Minister for the Southern Region with specific powers relating to the insurgency. Now that would be interesting, wouldn't it?
