PAT chief resigns

Viroj Chongchansittho has resigned as director-general of the Port Authority of Thailand following a strike by port employees over an overtime dispute.

The PAT boad on Monday approved the resignation of Mr Viroj, board chairman Khamronwit Thoopkrachang said.

Pol Lt-Gen Khamronwit said Mr Viroj verbally offerred to resign at today's meeting of the PAT board.

    If I understand correctly Khamronwit Thoopkrachang is also the Metropolitan Police Bureau chief (ie head of Bangkok police) who was photo op'ed with Khun Thaksin to pin his new stars on following promotion. I know this is Thailand but how can it be right for a serving police officer of this rank to also be the PAT board chairman - aside from anything how has he got the time with so much work to do to reform and reinvigorate his force
