Chalerm picks advisory group 'tied to rebels'

Yingluck says government not involved in selection

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has appointed nine members of the Wadah group as his advisers on the deep South.

The move has been criticised as some members of the group have been linked to insurgents in the region.

The advisers, appointed Tuesday by Mr Chalerm, are group leader Den Tomeena, Wan Muhamad Nor Matha Wan, Areepen Uttarasin, Sukarno Matha, Najmuddin Uma, Phetdao Tomeena, Abdulrohman Absulsamad, Suthipan Sririkanont and Sudin Phuyutthanont.

Hunting down the insurgents and killing them one by one is a strategy which doesn't work. There really isn't a substitute for finding a way to sit down and talk to people, and no matter how great the political/religious differences, it's the government's responsibility to find a way to do so. I wouldn't expect the Dems to understand this.

Madamme PM said her government didn't involve in selection of advisers. Who is Mr. Chalerm?Isn't he part of government? Isn't he representing the government?I am very very confused.Mr. Chalerm is better going to visit them with cookie jar. Make sure every advisers get some taste of cookies and they will handle situations for Charlerm. Problems solved.

"He said the ruling Pheu Thai Party had limitations in working to solve the problems in the South, because it has no MPs from the region, a traditional stronghold of the opposition Democrat Party."

A nice way to say what Thaksin said not so nicely: Vote for us and we will help you. If not, not.

Sounds so simple why was this initiative not taken long ago? The value still remains to be seen however the military support the initiative so let them work on this and see how it develops.

“Mr Chalerm will be taking advice”
Really? Maybe Chalerm will be forced to hear what they say or maybe he will get some documents which maybe he will read. But does anybody really think Chalerm is taking and considering advice from anybody?
Chalerm is clearly the wrong person for this job - and far as I can tell for any other honest job.
What does this government want? A solution worked out by people with controversial opinions or Chalerm?

The first step is to call them Terrorists. Until this is done, nothing will happen.
