Govt proposes Kaeng Sua Ten alternative

The Water and Flood Management Commission (WFMC) has resolved to build two large dams on the Yom River and 17 smaller dams on its tributaries as an alternative to its highly controversial Kaeng Sua Ten dam project.

Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, the commission's chairman, said the Upper and Lower Mae Yom dams will replace the contentious Kaeng Sua Ten dam as the government tackles flooding and drought on the Yom basin.
