Police probe 'anti-breathalyser' toffee

Police are checking the claim by a private company which has advertised that its popular "KisLip" candy can help drunk drivers pass a breathalyser test because it has properties to reduce 70% of the blood alcohol content in a drinker’s body.

Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy chief Worasak Nopsithiporn, who oversees city traffic, revealed on Thursday that he had instructed Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, chief of the Police Traffic Division, to coordinate with medical experts and concerned agencies to verify the company’s advertising claim.

The producer of KisLip, which has grabbed widespread attention from motorists and created an internet buzz, said the product had been certified by physicians and the Food and Drug Administration, according to earlier media reports.

Wasn't it not long ago that we learned about a finding of the breathanalisers used by the police that never been tested or calibrated?

Maybe someone should tell the officer that a breathalizer doesn't measure the alcohollevel in blood but the alcohollevel in expired alveolarian air ( hence BREATHalizer). Alcohol level in blood is checked in .... blood ( prelevated with a syringue).

If the toffee really reduces the blood alcohol by 70% then the people are really 70% less drunk. Even a blood alcohol test by a doctor would show the reduced alcohol level.
I don’t think that this is the truth but if it would be the truth it would be great news. Drink and eat toffee and be sober and drive. Great!

He said alcohol testing equipment used by law enforcement agencies was scientifically certified and gave accurate and credible results.

This of course is where used outside of the Kingdom of Thailand. There was a recent article claiming that half of the breathalyzers here gave false high readings. I have a friend that drank one 330mm can of beer and got arrested for drunk driving in Nonthaburi! Poor guy did not know enough to demand a blood test.

Thailand, is the land of police scams, money for my mia noi and of course mai pen rai.

Who needs toffee when most breathalyzers don't function properly and would be easy to beat in court.
