Academic: Red-shirts must move on

The progressive wing of the red-shirt movement must break from the elite-compromising United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) and the ruling Pheu Thai Party to become a push factor in the transitional democracy of Thailand, according to Nidhi Eoseewong.

The renowned historian and thinker was speaking at the "Art for Freedom of Political Prisoners" exhibition launched at the Pridi Institute Thursday.

"the elite-compromising United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) and the ruling Pheu Thai Party"
This connection is only a surprise to those who have been fooled into believing this is a genuine grass-roots movement driven by a desire for radical political reform.

The truth is that if Red Shirts abandon UDD/PT, the movement will collapse within months from a lack of funding. There are too few 'real' supporters prepared to spend their own cash, and too many who attend for the party atmosphere and freebies.

What exactly are the ideas of the “progressive wing of the red-shirt movement”? Do they support Thaksin, Jatuporn, Nattawut or any other of the “peaceful demonstration” leaders? What do they think about arson and looting?
If they are so progressive then I hope they will expose all the crimes of the not so progressive red-shirts and publicly wow to condemn any violence.
