'Rule of law' needs teeth, experts stress

Legal experts yesterday stressed the importance of judicial independence as vital to the rule of law.

The experts made their view clear at a seminar organised by the government-appointed Independent National Rule of Law Commission, headed by Ukrit Mongkolnavin.

Kumchai Jongjakapun, a member of the commission, said in recent years there have been widespread calls for the rule of law, but no consensus on what that meant.

    Note carefully that this is rule OF law, not rule BY law. Prime example of the latter is the use of Article 112, the LM law.

    Yes, it is the law, but it is used to rule (and disrupt and persecute).

    The first step would be to apply the rule of law to every body and not just to the working class.

    Making sure that the rich and influentials get the same punishment for their crimes as poor people without influence get would be a start.
