Ariya misses out on golf history

PATTAYA - Thailand's new golden golfer Ariya "Nong May" Jutanugarn failed on the final hole to take out the US$1.5 million Honda LPGA Thailand title, missing out narrowly in becoming the first Thai to win an LPGA event in her first major appearance as a professional.

Korean world number four Inbee Park claimed the honours after the teenage local star suffered heartbreak after throwing away a two-shot lead on the 18th.

That was a memorable back nine; I was glued to my TV all afternoon. Great golf, most enjoyable. So sad to see what happened to Ariya on 18. She will probably remember that much more than her hole-in-one. On 18, I was surprised that she took an unplayable penalty; thought she could have hacked it out of there instead of dropping it back in the bunker--thought the commentator said she could drop it as far back as she wanted--why in the bunker, giving herself the hardest shot in golf, the long bunker shot? Oh well, she played beautifully and has a very bright future, tho this one must have really hurt.

17years old and the world at your feet! Brilliant - words cannot describe what a huge achievement this is for somebody so young. At 17 most of us were just setting out on the road to ruin!(well - I was anyway!)
Congratulations Ariya. Certain it will not be long before we see you as the first Thai to win an LPGA event.

Fantastic, congratulations Ariya, now watch the eternal free loader Suwat Liptapanlop appear out of nowhere for the photo op.
