Police cast doubt on rape claim

Witness accounts and CCTV footage conflict with Scottish victim's testimony

The rape of a Scottish woman in Nakhon Si Thammarat has prompted the provincial police force to launch a manhunt for the offenders.

But the more evidence police obtain, the more doubts they have about the victim's testimony.

The 20-year-old woman was found crying on the balcony of a deserted commercial building in tambon Klang of Muang district early on Feb 15.

genuine investigation supported by evidences and witnesses is the only way to clear doubts. It's obvious that the victim is too drunk to recognize the offender and her testimonies are not reliable anymore. The suspect admission to the crime is as good as this case is solve.

@DutchToo #28: Would you please elaborate the big difference between your Thai and Farang examples. And how about same nationality couples - one or both drunk?
One thing lots of people seem to agree on is that women are always the victim. Why? Sure, there are more men who try to rape women than women who try to rape men. But there are also some women who like to shout rape whenever they see an advantage in doing so. And unfortunately lots of people don’t ask for any proof. If the woman says he raped her he is guilty – in many people minds.

    @BKK-farang, no.26

There is a big difference between having sex with consent after drinking some alcohol, or trying to have sex (twice) with some one who totally passed out and in need of help.

And there is a big difference between:
Victim (drunk Thai lady) - Rapist (Farang male)
    and
Victim (drunk Farang lady) - Rapist (Thai male)

D20 step down from your soapbox please, the article does not say if consent was or was not given does it! she may have said yes, how do we know if the journalism is quoting the accused man's police statement word for word.
Rape is only considered rape in the west if it is proved beyond reasonable doubt that the victim did not consent or tried to resist physically or verbally. And whether or not that happened here is not mentioned is it.

I totally agree with Largo #23. Please everybody stand up who ever had sex after having a couple of drinks. Are we all rapists?
Imagine a normal Friday night where couples and singles go out and return late at night. Many of them are drunk – more or less, and many of them will have sex. Are they (male and female) all rapists?
When is someone too drunk to be able to give consent? I think we all agree if someone is passed out that is “too drunk”. But how about a shy girl or boy who deliberately has a couple of drinks to loosen up? Is it rape if someone has sex with them?
I don’t want to condone rape but that term is sometimes misused

So the victim is to blame!!! ???
"If she did not drink to much, all of this did not happen"

When a lady is upset from a passed event, passed out from to much alcohol and in need of help, you not try to have sex with her. Twice!

Where I come from, this is rape.

Foreigners comming to Thailand and drinking to much is an other discussion.
But for sure. If I come to Thailand and offer a Thai lady so much to drink that she passes out. And then have sex with her. Not sure it's with her consent. I end up in jail.
    Then it's rape,.......

How much Mr Pongpat pay you think?

Sounds to me like this women is a very irresponsible young lass. The concept put forward by many posters here is that you can't give consent if you are too drunk therefore she was raped. Well that would mean that every women who attends a house party or goes clubbing in UK or USA or Majorca or wherever did not give consent when they had sex after. If this really is the law then women should be banned from drinking so that the are always sober when they give consent. How on earth can the man know at what level of inebriation it becomes an act of rape. Breathalyze the women first ?

"The complaint could go to court as a rape case, he said, adding that similar cases occur regularly in the tourist provinces of Phuket and Krabi.”

Oh? Really? Well that would look good on the next TAT-sponsored poster campaign.

Lucky then, D12, that we never see non-tourists getting drunk and exerting their egos — unless its at at the occasional “religious festival”, perhaps?
