Police truck clamped for illegal parking

A photo of a wheel-clamped police pickup truck that was parked illegally at Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen province went viral and drew praise from many netizens, reports said on Monday.

The reports said the police vehicle was locked up by a security guard at the hospital because it was parked in a prohibited area.

Most Thai netizens gave positive responses such as "Even the police must respect the law", "The police officer must relearn traffic regulations", "I hope the security guard won't be penalised for this",  and "Kudos for the security guard for doing what is right".

The security guard deserves a raise!

@Discussion 10 Brilliant answer, if you needed the police in an emergency, and they could not get there because some security guard had disabled their vehicle you would not mind the wait? The owner can set restrictions on parking on private property but there are no "laws" applicable on private property for the police to be above. Your another one that lets your hatred of the police cloud any sensible judgment. The guard or property owner should have filed a complaint at the police station, but the guard deserves to be arrested and prosecuted for disabling an emergency vehicle.

    What a nice photo op.

When it becomes the norm, and all those police regularly riding motorcycles on footpaths and parking where they wish are arrested, we will be impressed and amazed. For now, this looks more like a self-serving PR stunt. Rather like those drug bust photo ops where the presence of a few senior police, a mound of drugs and a contrite looking "criminal" are supposed to convince us that the law is not actively encouraging corruption.

Robins and bop The police are not above the law. Security personnel often clamp on private property. Like most Thai drivers they have no consideration for other road/parking users. There was a reason this was a restricted area.

At jacksprat, I'm not sure if he would've done it on a pink Bentley. It depends on the size of the wheel. Do you know the model of the car?

Would he have done this to a pink Bentley?

That is an public emergency vehicle and any private security guard who did that in our home countries would be immediately arrested as should this guard. Whether or not the cop parked in wrong place does not justify disabling a vehicle subject to emergency calls. Besides, parking in a "restricted area" on private property is not a crime. The hatred expressed by some foreigners make me wonder if they had "problems" with the police in their home countries too.

Not enough information in this report.
What if the officer was on official police business arresting someone in the hospital?
    Or bringing in a injury?
Or what if the cop got an emergency call for an armed robbery at your families house and then can get there because some zealous guard thinks he's a cop?

I think the security guard is in the err here. My bet he'll lose his job.

Can we now expect to see police arrested for extorting money?

  • Discussion 4 : 25 Feb 2013 at 12.514

hope this isn't just a gimmick. does a hospital security with him a vehicles clamp for such purpose?
