Jail or no jail, I hope the authorities hide these defectors well from other militants, and use them as informants in exchange for a reduced sentense, a witness protection program or similar. They most likely have invaluable information about their fellow militants.

The fact that the authorities not only tell the public that militants defect, but also publish their name, unfortunately suggests that Thai intelligence services are still in their infancy!
