D5 Many a hi-so son/daughter died at the Santika disco fire. There was all kinds of talk about inspections and fire safety. Did anything improve?

Perhaps the families of the dead from Tiger disco fire can answer that. Do we ever hear about safety inspection officials that accepted bribes going to prison? Without accountability in society nothing will change unless somehow integrity and morality blossoms on its own. That will be the same day it snows in Bangkok.

And the minister for transport was immediate with his orders to get the passenger van situation under control.....or maybe not.
Nothing will be done about this farce until a relative of a politician or someone of influence somehow ends up in a serious accident in or with one of these death traps.

Police will set up checkpoints on the road to prevent further accidents, Pol Maj Gen Katcha said.

And that pretty much says it all.

And the Government still doesn't have a clue on what to do to prevent this road carnage.

I wish these type of accidents would get more public attention. And maybe passengers themselves would report his speeding to the police. Simple, take the license plate down and give it to the police and then hope and pray they do something about it.

Today I was in a van and the driver spent 45 minutes chatting to someone on this mobile and constantly laughing. Are these drivers qualified? Do we have a shortage of van drivers? I do feel much safer if I could wear my seat-belt. But every seat-belt in all these vans has been disabled. A seat-belt is a simple safety feature that could save lives.

"Police will set up checkpoints on the road to prevent further accidents, Pol Maj Gen Katcha said."

    For how long? One day?

When will the Thai Government do something about these van and bus drivers?
