Exit polls: Pongsapat has small lead

Exit polls for Sunday's Bangkok governor election show that Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen of the ruling Pheu Thai Party leads MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the opposition Democrat Party by a small margin.

The exit polls, conducted by Bangkok Poll, Suan Sunandha Poll and TV Pool Poll, were announced at 3pm. Result of exit polls (screen capture from...

Wife reckons all the poll agencies were likely to accept money to skew the questioning. Either way they have been severely discredited twice now. Why is that? are they unable to get a true spread in their samples, are Bangkokians liars when 'questioned', did all of them succumb to a 'cheque'. Whatever the case, Peau Thai will now know that 'Democracy' in Bangkok is a tough nut to crack because it's based on voters who aren't smitten by unobtainable promises, cheap stunts, or populist rewards. They're also not easily deceived by poll opinions that seem to confound trends.

Discussion 8. I don't think you do have any dog in this race and I'm sure you do just want a fair outcome. I was just giving a simple reason for why I think there is a difference between poll results and actual results.

BTW, how could they publish exit polls before the vote closes , that could influence voters. Wrong Wrong Wrong. Sleazy.

"Do you think it is possible that people have been saying that they are for the PTP in public but all along were supporting the Dems" I don't the pollsters were intimidating anyone. I have no dog in this race. I just want to see a fair outcome. Big reversals from pre-election polls do happen, but let;s be honest: its unusual. Perhaps something unusual happened here?

    .

    It's 6.25 pm.

    Congrats, Democrats - Sukhumbhand

    Sorry, PT - Pongspat

So sad for my pen pals, you know who you are.

My critics are now targeting : Sukhumbhand & his job.

If this PTP candidate wins (which I am afraid for), this will be the start of a new era: populism but their idealistic promises never coming true. The Shinawatra clan, masters in this sort of skills, are almost in charge of the whole country! Which means more violence in the South and more short-term populism since Thai people do not look further than their own immediate personal benefit. Is there anyone out there to see the light (not necessarily coming from the democrats)? Or in other words: is there still a light out there?

Discussion 3. Do you think it is possible that people have been saying that they are for the PTP in public but all along were supporting the Dems. Let's face it the Reds have a history of intimidation so I think a lot of people just found it easier to say they were supporting the PTP and not have to deal with any potential visits from red shirts.

If you check the report, it is timed at 13.05 and is an exit poll only, which can be very unreliable.

Yes, this is interesting. The Bangkok Post is certainly not a pro-PT paper, and yet it says Pongsapat has a lead. In addition, the election pollsters are now saying that Pongsapat had a lead based on polling earlier today. The international press is now picking up on this and reporting the same. The Nation is the only source on the internet and I can find that suggests that Sukhumbhand is wining. And we know where The Nation stands in this election. Irrespective of whom you favor, it would be odd (not necessarily irregular, but undeniably odd) if Sukhumbhand won.

Interesting report. The Nation says Sukhmband is leading at 65%!
