Soldiers march to Pheu Thai beat

Army personnel were allowed to vote freely without pressure from their superiors and the majority chose Pheu Thai candidate Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen to become the new Bangkok governor, according to an army source after the ballot count at booths near their units.

The results were drawn from the counting of ballots cast at polling stations in front of military divisions on Samsen Road in Dusit district that included the 11th Military Circle, the Signals Department, the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division and the Army Ordnance Department.

According to the vote count, more than 70 per cent of eligible voters in green in the district cast a ticket for the Pheu Thai candidate while a minority went for MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the Democrat Party, who unofficially has won Sunday’s gubernatorial election.

Just Facts 28: englishbob 4 - "But a majority of Bangkokians voted for Democrats."
The Dem Party won 46% of total votes. A simple majority is defined as greater than 50%.

    That is not correct!
In politics, political voting systems, and even in parliamentary procedure in some cases, there are several different popular concepts relating to a majority:

    Simple majority
    Supermajority
    Absolute majority
    Two-thirds majority
    Relative majority
Double majority - a majority of votes in a majority of states or jurisdictions.

Khun Android #26, look at it this way, the more PTP ruining the Economy, more people will become poor, and more votes for them. Looking at the recent PTP's fiascos from the Great Flood, Rice Mortgage Scheme, the First Car Buyer Scheme, and etc, this seems to be the case. Prachatipad Party, on the other hand, will have to come up with public policies which turn poor people into more middle class within their territories, who will likely vote for them.

The Democrats won good for them, I'm at least man enough to accept it. There will be an election in about 2 years. If the Incumbent Governor elect can't or won't come through on his campaign promises the PTP will have a very good chance to take back Bangkok nationally. The Democrats only managed to improve their position by less than 200,000 votes and the PTP almost doubled theirs. If the Democrats get complacent, which is likely, they may have less seats in the house than they do now in 2 years. That's the reality of this election.

Are soldiers from the north east considered to be Bangkok citizens? Have they transferred their residence papers to Bangkok while the family is still in the northeast?

I admit I don't know the rules, but at a first sight it sounds strange.

    kasper (D17):
Of the 92 deaths in April/May 2010, how many were "armed terrorists" as opposed to unarmed civilians, medical volunteers, reporters etc? Please be more specific, thanks.

Winning in bkk governor 2013 but losing in nationwide general election 2011 is still a failure on the whole.

I absolutely love the reds blubbering all over each other looking for excuses, trying to find scapegoats and if nothing else fails, changing the subject as always. At least we know for the future that solders support PTP, but when under fire from their red buddies even they will protect themselves.

Is peterd just a red troll spouting nonsense? Appears so. If I were going to write to an English speaking paper, I'd at least make sure my comments made some sense. LOL

D16 Ricefield, If you had been in Bangkok recently you would have seen the front of the Army bases plastered with #9 posters. At one point the frontage of the Army Club on VP Road had only #9's every 10 metres. Anyone who says there was no bias by the military is speaking absolute rubbish.

This was a strong vote against the autocracy of Thaksin IMO and demonstrates again why he is afraid to come back to BKK.
