Pongsapat seeks police reinstatement

Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen will request a return to the police force after his defeat in Sunday's gubernatorial election in Bangkok.

The former deputy police chief said he would consult Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the matter when she returns from her visit to Belgium and Sweden.

He resigned as deputy police chief and secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to run in the Bangkok governor election under the Pheu Thai Party banner.

This is another fence separating Thailand from Democracy: NO member of armed forces or police should be allowed to run for or hold ANY political mandate, period. Wanna get involved in politics? Fine: quit your job first, with no way back, no rank to be called by, no more uniform or salary! Now what? Just be a Police General again? With the clear stamp: 'Approved by PTP'? Ludicrous but TIT!

Not many countries where a general can resign and then ask to come back again. I'd expected him to go into politics, possibly as a party list MP.

You resigned Mr Ponsapat. Maybe they hired someone more qualified to take your position while you were away trying something else.

How would it be if everyone was was allowed to retire from their job temporarily to seek another?
If they weren't successful with their pursuit, then they just come back and say,
I would like my job back please?
Can you just sack the person you hired, because I wasn't successful this time, maybe I will be more successful at a later date.
When you retire from a company you are taking your chances on your future.
If unsuccesful, you don't come back pleading for reinstatement
Please! Is this an insult to ones intelligence?
He retires in 3 years, so just move on.

Pol Gen Pongsapat said he hoped to return to the police force and resume his previous role in solving problems related to traffic congestion, drugs and crime.

if he can do this while he's a police officer, then he has my vote for governor next time

Back to the inactive post eh.

Please tell me that the cabinet really does not have to waste time deciding if one man can get his old job back. Isn't there some cost for failure.

Thai bureaucrats could teach Sir Humphrey a thing or two about making a simple thing complicated.

Is he also going to resign from PT - which he joined to fight the election? Sorry but it is a complete abuse for a serving police officer (or military officer) to go staight from office to fight an election and then go back to their original office having lost. Everyone wants to avoid the politicisation of either military or police. There should be a proper gap (say 2 years) between leaving government service and standing in a national or provincial election
