Houses set on fire in Narathiwat

Arsonists set two vacant houses owned by Buddhist villagers on fire in Narathiwat's Rueso district on Monday night, causing severe damage, district police chief Pol Col Anothai Jindamanee said.

Teams of police were examining the wreckage of the two houses, in Ban Tuelo, tambon Riang, Rueso district.

Investigators said the arsonists broke in through the back door of the first house, which belonged to Lek Dongchan, 70, poured petrol on mattresses on the first and second floors and then set fire to them.
